Created entirely by hand using layers of colored ballpoint pen on a 20" × 20" cradled, unfinished pine wood panel. Thousands of overlapping marks build the portrait, creating a dense and expressive composition where color, line, and texture continuously interact.
The natural wood surface provides a warm, organic foundation beneath the intricate layers of ink. Loose marks extend beyond the figure, giving the work a sense of movement and preserving the physical energy of the drawing process.
The contrast between the structured portrait and the surrounding web of spontaneous marks creates a piece that reveals new details the longer it is viewed. The cradled wood construction gives the work a substantial presence and allows it to be displayed without the need for a traditional frame.
